Chris Ledoux’s Cowboy Hat
Mississippi born rodeo rider Chris LeDoux died at 56 in 2005 from liver cancer in Wyoming.
But his music lives on his 36 albums and the baton he passed to his singer son Ned.
We revisit Chris’s humour and humility on his historic hit where he advised viewers to never tempt a rodeo rider by attacking his head wear.
This Cowboy’s Hat was on his 1982 album Used To Want To Be a Cowboy.
Kevin Welch’s album Millionaire was written to his partner Claudia but was equally relevant to LeDoux who had a liver transplant at the age of 54.
“I don’t really know Chris but from what I do know I’ll like the guy if I get a chance to meet him,” Welch revealed at the time.
“I like his version of Millionaire. It’s also ironic that Garth Brooks offered to give Chris a chunk of his liver when he became ill.”
