Willie Nelson Boomerangs To Nu Country TV
Texan singer-songwriter-actor Shotgun Willie Nelson, now 91, headlines Nu Country TV at 9.30 pm on Saturday August 24 by popular demand with a double shot of his hits.
Willie appeared last week with South African Orville Peck and their humorous homily Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other.
Creedence Clearwater icon John Fogerty and Hunter Valley star Sandy Summers play a double shot of highway songs shot on our program repeated Monday at 3 am.
Orange born singer Robbie Mortimer, former Northern Territory administrator Ted Egan and Matt Scullion also appear on our show filmed and produced by Laith Graham.
This series is dedicated to late Nu Country TV host and treasurer Mid-Pacific Bob Olson and Vice President Rod Browne.

Shotgun Willie Rides High In The Saddle
Shotgun Willie Nelson, now 91, showed viewers how to stay high in the saddle on his Nu Country TV return.
He showcased his love of horses at his Luck western town where he stables horses at his rescue ranch near Austin.
The four times wed dad of eight children is on the road again to promote his 100th album The Border and his 101st LP Last Leaf.
His sons Lukas and Micah join him on his albums and tours that include many festivals including his annual July 4 picnics.
Willie also found snakes among his horses as he traced his journey in his videos Made In Texas and Ride Me Back Home.
Nelson released albums with the late Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash famous Highwaymen whom he toured here with.
Willie and Kris Kristofferson played golf on the banks of the Yarra on one of those tours and adopted the Dead Livers song I’d Love To Have A Joint With Willie on his pre-show sound system’s recorded theme song on his 1981 Australasian tour.
Nelson has also appeared in more than 30 movies including The Electric Horseman, Honeysuckle Rose, Barbarosa, Coming Out of the Ice, Songwriter, Red Headed Stranger, The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James, Stagecoach, Once Upon a Texas Train and Beer For My Horses.

John Fogerty Rides On A Mystic Highway
Creedence Clearwater Revival icon John Fogerty takes a ride on a Mystic Highway on his Nu Country TV return.
Fogerty, now 79, takes viewers on a road trip back through his music journey as he illustrates his Creedence Clearwater era and well before.
It featured his studio and mountain roads as he drives his pick-up truck and mounted a motor bike.
Fogerty has released 14 solo albums and 15 with Creedence Clearwater Revival.
They followed his albums with his embryonic bands the Golliwogs and Blue Velvets.
His many hits include Proud Mary, Lodi, Fortunate Son, Down on the Corner, Bad Moon Rising, Centerfield and many more performed on his Australian tours.
He appeared here with Creedence in 1972 and toured here in 2012, 2008, 2005 and 1988.
His 2024 Queensland festival visit was cancelled at the 11th hour – but not by Fogerty.
Mystic Highway was on Fogerty’s ninth solo album Wrote a Song for Everyone, released on May 28, 2013 – Fogerty’s 68th birthday.

Sandy Summers Hits A Hell Of A Highway
Hunter Valley singer-songwriter Sandy Summers depicts her hot highway of hell in her debut on our show.
The Cessnock chanteuse hits the road with her guitars and gal pals.
Sandy found a chrome yellow Holden Torana and a spitfire green Holden Ute as she soaked up the freedom from her start at Paxton near Cessnock
Sandy ended her trip at Merewether Beach in Newcastle.
The Hunter Valley division ACM Stars of Fame recipient, Sandy completed three levels of classical music exams with the AMEB when she co-founded an award winning duo. Sandy then commenced her solo brand in February 2023.
Hell Of A Highway is on her 2023 debut EP Summer Storm.

Ted Egan And Matt Scullion Beer Box Men
Former Northern Territory administrator Ted Egan and Newcastle Golden guitarist-actor Matt Scullion provide tuneful tricks on their return to our show.
They showed how to turn a beer box into a drum on tours.
Beer Box Man is on Ulladulla born Matt’s seventh album.
Scullion, a prolific singer-songwriter, has written hits for artists diverse as Lee and Tania Kernaghan, Sara Storer, Adam Harvey, Jayne Denham, Amber Lawrence and Cold Chisel.
Ted, now 92, released 30 albums after moving to Alice Springs from Melbourne at the age of 16.
Our producer David Dawson had the pleasure of meeting Ted when he visited Alice Springs for the Sydney Daily Mirror newspaper for filming of a 1984 Slim Dusty movie.
Ted invited Slim, his band and journalists to his unfinished home – just a deep cellar
We went downstairs for a drink or two in that cellar he called Sink A Tinny Downs.
Egan recently revealed “I have just completed my 30th album of songs. I am presenter of 13 x 1 hour documentary films titled This Land Australia and I have written ten books. That represents a classy way to make a living. Fancy getting paid for it!”

Robbie Mortimer Blows The Speakers
Orange born singer Robbie Mortimer hits the road in a hot truck on his Nu Country TV return.
The former Redcliffe rugby league star takes trips back in time.
His dad sold him the F 150 truck he drives in his new video after helping launch his music career.
Blow The Speakers is on his new album by the singer who is one of five boys in his family.
Robbie’s father and uncle are Canterbury Bulldogs legends Peter and Steve Mortimer.
Craig Honeysett directed the video for Blow The Speakers that also includes a live set at a recent Nashville themed event in Orange.
“From storyboarding to filming to editing Craig and I were committed to ensuring that the energy of my live shows and the song itself were properly captured. I really think Craig achieved this admirably” says Robbie.
After a three-year stint playing Rugby League with the Redcliffe Dolphins he returned to the family farm in Orange where he works as a special needs teacher and mentors indigenous youth.
“I’m full of optimism. I see the light in everything.” reflects Robbie.
“I’d throw myself into teaching by day and every other waking moment was spent honing my songwriting skills and dreaming my life as a performer.”

George, Waylon, Merle and Willie Nelson were among country historian Barbara Dowling’s favourite Texans.
The Waylon, Highwaymen, Merle and George discs were donated by Barbara who died at 77 in December, 2020.
She co-hosted Long In The Saddle in our Nu Country FM era and was pioneer Australian and Victorian country music awards judge.
Barbara was admired for rising above losing her sight as a young woman and her country passion with annual trips to Waylon’s birthplace in Littlefield, West Texas.
Waylon died at 64 on February 13, 2002, and is survived by singing spouse Jessi, now 81, and son Shooter, 45.
