Chart topping trio The Pistol Annies headline Nu Country TV on Saturday June 4 at 9.30 pm.

Texan singing crime novelist-comedian Kinky Friedman and Missouri minstrel Nathaniel Rateliff & his Night Sweats appear in Behind Bars in a prison double shot on the show repeated Wednesday at 11.30 pm.

Melbourne band Darlinghurst return live to the program filmed and edited by our multi-talented lockdown producer-host Laith Graham.

Fellow Victorian Andrew Swift, Blue Mountains belle Cass Hopetoun and her fiancé Blake Dantier and Mylee Grace boomerang this week.

PISTOL ANNIES SNOW GLOBE

The Pistol Annies trio return live with a seasonal celebration for our series finale.

Texan Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley formed the Pistol Annies in 2011.

They have all released solo albums and written hits for other artists.

Snow Globe is one of their 10 original songs on their fourth album Hell Of A Holiday.

Other originals include Harlan County Coal, Leaning on Jesus, Make You Blue, The Only Thing I Wanted and the title track.

It also features their versions of Sleigh Ride , Merle Haggard's If We Make it Through December and a reimagined Auld Lang Syne.

THE KINKSTER CELEBRATES NELSON MANDELA

Texan singing crime novelist Kinky Friedman performs his tribute to a political pioneer Nelson Mandela who spent 27 years in jail

Mandela played Kinky's classic Ride Em Jewboy every night for three years in his cell and read Kinky crime books in gaol.

Mandela died at 95 on December 5, 2013

That was after his post prison career.

Nelson was the first President of South Africa in 1994 and won a Nobel Peace Prize.

Mandela's Blues is on Kinky's 18th album Resurrection.

Kinky recently released a new version of Live From Down Under with the late Billy Joe Shaver on Omnivore Records with liner notes by this diarist.

NATHANIEL RATELIFF NIGHT SWEATS BEHIND BARS

Missouri minstrel Nathaniel Rateliff and his Night Sweats band join The Kinkster in our Behind Bars double shot.

They frequently play Willie Nelson July 4 picnics and many other major outlaw festivals when they are on the road.

This time Nathaniel, 43, and his band performed in a prison.

Their prison song SOB is on the first of his 10 albums.

They released their 10 th album The Future on November 5, 2021.

DARLINGHURST LIVE AND KICKING

Melbourne quartet Darlinghurst return live with a little help from friends on drums.

They perform Unfaithful - one of seven singles on their self-titled debut album.

Darlinghurst also appeared on Nu Country with Where We Go and You Stopped Making Sense.

They won acclaim for their live show at the seventh Out on the Weekend festival on the dock of the bay at Steamworks in Williamstown.

The band members are Jason Resch, Pagan Newman, Cassie Leopold and Matt Darvidis.

ANDREW SWIFT AND CASS HOPETOUN RETURN

Berwick dual Golden Guitarist Andrew Swift, Blue Mountains belle Cass Hopetoun and her singer-songwriter fiancé Blake Dantier return with their trio video.

Swift, who appeared on last week's show with his Courting Calamity video works on boats and caravan repairs at JV Marine in Seaford when not on the road.

They perform Say The Word from his third album The Art Of Letting Go.

He also appeared on Nu Country with videos for Head Full Of Honey, Ball & Chain, Fire & Ice, Reckless Desires, Runaway Train and King Of The Sky - inspired by the death of his pilot uncle in a plane crash.

He won two 2019 Tamworth Golden Guitars in best new talent and alt country album and hosts caravan park tours with Kiewa Valley born singer-songwriter Gretta Ziller.

Hopetoun recently released her debut album Not Your Typical Bride that featured 13 songs she wrote with Dantier who is promoting his sixth single Don't Say When from his debut album Dry Seaso.

Cass and Blake write and record in their home studio.

MYLEE GRACE WHIPLASH IN THE MOSHPIT

Byron Bay belle Mylee Grace debuts on Nu Country with her seven year old daughter Goldie Wright.

They showed how not to cart hay bales in Utes and proved chess was an easier game to master.

Mylee and singing surfer spouse Ozzy Wright toured to promote her Milkshakes and Goons of Doom albums.

Her debut EP Baby Talk was followed by duet disc Mylee Grace and Ozzy Wrong Songs.

Mylee, Ozzy and their children Goldie and Rocky live in Happy Sun House – an off-the-grid shack perched on top of a hill near Byron Bay on Bundjalung Country.

She filmed her Any Road video in a northern NSW rivers sugar cane town for her new solo album Whiplash In The Moshpit.

George, Waylon, Merle and Willie Nelson were among country historian Barbara Dowling's favourite Texans.

The Waylon, Highwaymen , Merle and George discs were donated by Barbara who died at 77 in December, 2020.

She co-hosted Long In The Saddle in our Nu Country FM era and was pioneer Australian and Victorian country music awards judge.

Barbara was admired for rising above losing her sight as a young woman and her country passion with annual trips to Waylon's birthplace in Littlefield, West Texas.

Waylon died at 64 on February 13, 2002, and is survived by singing spouse Jessi, now 78, and son Shooter, 42.
