KYLIE AND BRI WANT TO HAVE FUN

Rodeo queen Kylie Frey and Bri Bagwell return to our show with a live version of a hit by another queen in Florida.

They joined forces at Captain Tony's Saloon , a Hog's Breath Café and sea craft to countrify Cyndi Lauper hit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Kylie and Bri chanced their arms at pool and drinking delicacies as they hit coastal curios.

Frey, 28, is a third generation rodeo rider from Louisiana and fronted Nu Country with Spur of The Moment and I Do Thing from her EP Rodeo Queen.

She also graced our show with Ain't Enough Beer In This Bar and One Night In Tulsa and appeared with Randy Rogers on Too Bad.

Kylie teamed with Mississippi man Randy Houser on another Nu Country video Horses In Heaven on stage at National Rodeo Finals in Arlington, Texas.

Frey is well qualified - her late grandpa taught her to ride horses when she was just five years old.

"The odds of anyone having the same story of a grandpa teaching them how to ride horses is not very common. The song was so personal to me that I didn't think anyone would relate to it," Kylie revealed.

"My grandpa was a really important person in my life and, and I wouldn't have grown up in the rodeo if it wasn't for him. My grandpa would always say one day, you're going to sing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo. He would tell me that's how I was going to get my start because that's how Reba McEntire did it and that's how I was going to do it."

Bagwell, 35, moved from New Mexico to Austin , Texas , when she was 18 and lives down south in New Braunfels.

She showed a large roster of musical mentors in her rollcall for her previous Heroes video from her third album In My Defence .

SARAH MCCULLOCH PATERNAL TRIBUTE

Florida saw-miller's daughter Sarah McCulloch pays tribute to her late dad in her Nu Country debut.

Sarah praised her dad's hard work in high water sawmills where he used hand milled cypress timber from his own mill to build their Big Cypress swamp house after she was born in Miami.

She home-schooled most of her formative years and drew songwriting inspiration from her colourful childhood, surrounded by Seminole Indians and Florida pioneers.

“My father was a force of nature, he was a pioneer who was always growing spiritually,” says McCulloch.

“He taught me the meaning of hard work and perseverance.”

Sawmiller's Daughter is title track of her second album delayed because of Covid and pays homage to her unique upbringing and country roots.

Sarah returned home to Florida from a decade in Western New York after a divorce.

“Like so many songwriters, I played the adversity to my creative advantage,” says McCulloch, “This album was written and rewritten, the songs weren't done until I had the experiences I needed to have for completion.”

SARAH DARLING HUNGOVER

Iowa born Sarah Darling exhibits some wry wordplay in our Behind Bars double shot.

Sarah, 40, headed to a desert to find closure after lost love where her hangover ensured a happy ending.

The Hungover video was shot and produced by Tara Diiorio of Velvet Sky Films and captures healing power of California desert.

"I get a healing, upbeat vibe from the L.A. sunshine,” Darling revealed of her song solace.

“Combine that with the dynamic Latin influence that these talented musicians brought to our co-write, and the result is a feeling that the pain and disorientation of the break-up – as bad or worse than what you might get from a night of drinking - will pass. You can feel the healing through the sorrow, which is ultimately so hopeful."

Hungover is on her new EP Get To Me that follows fifth album Wonderland that topped U.K. charts.
