Mississippi minstrel Michael Hardy continues our church theme with a fiery funeral on the show repeated Tuesday at 8 am and Saturdays - 11.30 pm. Canadian artists Dead South debut on the eve of their 2023 Australian tour on the program filmed and edited by our multi-talented lockdown producer-host Laith Graham. Quebec singer-songwriter Robby Johnson, Sydney singing actor Andy Penkow and Sin City trio Hoochie Mama also appear this week with vibrant videos. Further info - https://www.c31.org.au/ LEE MARITAL MIRTH IN CHURCH Lee Brice exposes his soul in church and a wedding after being diagnosed with Covid before the 54th CMA Awards in Nashville in November of 2020. Brice, 43, and father of three, cancelled his role with Kentuckian chanteuse Carly Pearce who appeared on Nu Country with Lee on I Hope You Are Happy Now on her second album released on Valentines' Day, 2020. This week Brice performs his Soul video from fifth album Hey World that features his More Beer video and title track single. Brice and Georgian Kip Moore toured Australia together in 2018. HARDY EXPOSES DEATH OF A GUITAR Mississippi minstrel Michael Hardy returns to our show in a not so solemn church funeral as his heroes burned the deceased's guitar in an open fire. But not his coffin that Hardy, now 32, helped carry from the church. Give Heaven Some Hell is on his second solo album A Rock. Hardy was joined by peers Devin Dawson and Laura Alaina on his previous Nu Country video for One Beer. One Beer is on Hardy's Hixtape Volume 1 and debut album A Rock and followed EPS This Ole Boy and Where To Find Me. He also appeared on Nu Country with Where To Find Me and Sober You Hardy's local tours included CMC Rocks Queensland festivals and east coasts capital cities. Michael has penned hits for artists diverse as Blake Shelton, Morgan Wallen and Florida Georgia Line. He also wrote hits with Jacob Dawson - twin brother of Devin - who played a CMA showcase at Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne with Brandy Clark, Lindsay Ell, Tenille Townes and Lachlan Bryan on March 23, 2019. Hardy wrote all 12 songs on A Rock produced by ACM Producer of the Year nominee Joey Moi and co-produced by Derek Wells. Further info - http://hardyofficial.com/ DEAD SOUTH DEBUT WITH FLYING BANJOS Canadian band The Dead South debut on our show with flying banjos - not flying saucers - on the eve of their Australasian tour in January, 2023. Their flying banjos were not lethal as they flew over the Empire State building in New York City. The Dead South wore hazmat suits while armed with banjos to illustrate their bluegrass version of Doors song People Are Strange. The Saskatchewan band has released four albums since forming in 2012. People Are Strange is on their third EP Easy Listening For Jerks Part . The band began as a quartet with Nate Hilts (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Scott Pringle (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Danny Kenyon (cello, vocals) and Colton Crawford (banjo). Crawford left the band in 2015 and was replaced by studio musician Eliza Mary Doyle but re-joined them for their Voices In Your Head tour in mid-2018. They released debut five-song 2013 EP The Ocean Went Mad and We Were to Blame. Their 2014 album Good Company was released by German label Devil Duck Records and included song and video for In Hell, I'll Be in Good Company. The Dead South has since released two studio albums Illusion and Doubt (2016) and Sugar & Joy (2019) and their Served Live LP on January 29, 2021. Further info - https://www.thedeadsouth.com/ ROBBY JOHNSON CHRISTMAS GIFT BONUS Quebec born singer-songwriter Robby Johnson quit his career as a sales representative after his wife bought him a 2012 Christmas present She joined his family in financing his studio time to record demo tapes. Johnson went into the studio and recorded his self-penned country-rock song I'll Be There Rockin' and Rollin'. It landed him a recording deal in Nashville where they moved in 2013, had a hit with South of Me and 2016 debut album Don't Look Back. In 2018 he launched his Trouble EP that included the single Big Time. Robby's Trying To Get Over You video promotes his second album Alive Right Now out this year. Johnson was born and raised in a small town in the province of Quebec. When his parents split he immersed himself in U.S. TV and music and taught himself to speak English with American accents. After high school he took factory jobs to pay bills and spent days practicing his vocals as the machinery roared away. He drives his message in Fallen Snow from his fourth album Before I Go . Penkow revisited his youth in our show on his previous video 1993 that followed How Many Times, Protected Love, Wildflowers, Drowning In The Whiskey and Before I Go and his duet with Della Harris on How Many Times - all on Nu Country. The JMC Academy graduate completed an advanced diploma of popular music and performance while lead singer for Inter-fear, Thompson Gunners covers band, Ionia and Mundy Bluze. He released debut album Sad Love Songs in 2018 and Shane Nicholson produced five track EP Chasing the Sun in 2020. Penkow was living on the coast when he joined SBS choir and appeared in Mel Gibson 2000 TV movie Three Stooges . Andy was also in the 2005 Deck Dog's movie and Deadly Woman and Sunday Night in 2017. The busty blonde barmaid gave them a wink so they bought her a drink but she decamped with their whiskey and motor bike in her kiss-off. The band guitarist-vocalist Tony De Santis penned Last Dime Whiskey And My Motorbike that was released in April. Drummer Martin Richardson and bassist Joff Gould added vocals and were joined by a vast cast in their video. Hoochie Mama's repertoire also includes songs by The Beatles , Ray Charles, The Sports , Robert Palmer, Otis Redding, The Tramps , Robbie Williams, Al Greene and The Doors . Barbara was admired for rising above losing her sight as a young woman and her country passion with annual trips to Waylon's birthplace in Littlefield, West Texas. Waylon died at 64 on February 13, 2002, and is survived by singing spouse Jessi, now 79, and son Shooter, 43.
