Matt and Bonnie duet on his Old Ground video from his second album If I Was In Dallas Tonight that he recorded in Wimberley in Texas hill country and Sydney.

Matt often visits the Texas town where the late Billy Joe Shaver and Kevin Welch lived before Kevin moved to NSW south coast with his Australian wife.

Matt also showcased Better Man - his song for bushfire and drought victims - from debut album Heartland.

He wrote it after hearing an interview with a suicidal farmer who lost his farm and family in a drought.

“He tried to make things work on his farm, however as things got harder and harder his wife and kids ended up leaving and moving to Melbourne,” Ward revealed.

“He dug his heels and unfortunately eventually lost the farm, his family, everything. He was clearly very upset and was saying he had, had suicidal thoughts, so I wrote the song from that story.”

Ward's cross-cultural exchange included trips to West Texas deserts and Austin concerts and fuelled videos Terlingua and Take Me Home with his Rising Sons band.

KATE WATSON RED LIPSTICK AND A COWBOY HAT

Texan troubadour Kate Watson strides corridors of her old school in her video for a song she wrote about being the new kid in town.

She began singing at Lone Star Cowboy Church in Montgomery, Texas - largest cowboy church in the world.

Kate's singer dad Jesse is the church preacher and Christian recording artist and her mum plays the church drums.

The 2019 American Idol finalist wrote Red Lipstick And A Cowboy Hat - an original, autobiographical song about thriving despite adversity.

Kate's family moved frequently as she was growing up and found it hard to fit in at school being perpetual new kid in town.

She developed gritty determination documented in her song, “you really burned me bad, but now I'm rising from the ash.”

Kate's first recording was a song her father wrote for her - Forever I'm Yours.
