Cass wants to do it her way on the big day - it follows talks with her parents. “Typical Bride is a defiant song written for all the girls, like me, who don't fit into the traditional bride mold,” Hopetoun revealed. “It's a country sass anthem, all about feeling empowered to do things the way you like and not worrying about what everyone else thinks you should do. The idea poured out of me one day after talking to my parents about my wedding plans. We had very different ideas about what the day had to include, and so the first writing session was definitely a bit of a vent.” She wrote it with Blake Dantier and recorded at Love Hz studios in Sydney with Matt Fell whose credits include Wolfe Bothers and Brad Butcher. The video captures the journey of a bride who snaps out of a trance to realise that she doesn't want a traditional wedding. It was produced by Bruce Dawson and Tribal Apes who also directed her debut video Shots. “I knew I straight away that I wanted to work with them again on this video,” Hopetoun explained. “And we were very much on the same page about the main energy we wanted to capture - defiance. I ended up playing different versions of myself, versions that I see as different types of girls who aren't necessarily the type for white weddings.” Further info - http://www.casshopetoun.com.au/ ASHLEY RAY POST WEDDING WOES
“I have my family to thank for their will to keep the ones we've lost alive through stories. There's not a BBQ, get-together, or holiday where we don't talk about ‘the good ole days' and the people we've lost. This record is my love letter to them, the ones still here, and the ones gone that we'll see on down the road.” Ray released another single Just A House on July 10. It was inspired by her father's death and watching her widowed mother attempt to maintain their family home on her own. Just A House is a daughter's desperate plea in the aftermath of shattering loss. “When I started playing the record for people, Just A House was the song that people seemed to really relate to,” Ray explained. “It was like they saw themselves and could acknowledge their own stories in mine. As a writer that's the ultimate gift and compliment. It blows me away that a plea, and a story about a loss so personal to me and my family, can inspire someone to tell me all about their own story of loss. No life is parallel with any other, but we all share the sadness of losing someone and not wanting to let them go.” Ray kicked off 2020 with a Grammy nomination for Best Country Group for Little Big Town's The Daughters - a Top 40 hit she wrote with Sean McConnell and Karen Fairchild.
