KERNAGHAN CLAN HEAD TO BUSH AND BEACH

Lee Kernaghan returns after equaling the late Slim Dusty's 38 Golden Guitars record at the 48 th Australian Country Music Awards in January.

Lee and singing spouse Robby are joined by a vast cast in the bush and beach in his video Where I Wanna Be - third single from his 15th album Backroad Nation.

His support cast included horses, dogs, chooks and children as they perform in a sea of tractors and Utes as Lee sings of where he wants to be.

The 55-year-old father of 2 sons plays the 13th CMC Rocks Queensland festival this month.

Backroad Nation was released in May 2019, produced by Australian songwriter-producer Lindsay Rimes and debuted at #1 on ARIA Chart.

Kernaghan was born in the Corryong high country of Victoria and raised by his trucking troubadour dad Ray and mum across the border in Albury.

He performed the outback, cities and towns on all coasts in a career that earned him an OAM in 2004 and Australian of the Year in 2008.

So it's no surprise he headed into red dirt country to film videos for songs from his album - riveting reflection of his travels that earned him four ARIA and three APRA Awards while raising funds for long suffering farmers beset by drought, flood and famine.

AARON WATSON COUNTRY RADIO MEMORIES

Fellow Texan Aaron Watson praises childhood country radio memories in his return.

The Amarillo native and Abilene resident recalled sneaking out of his bedroom as a child to watch his mum and dad dancing to the Grand Ole Opry on the wireless in Country Radio - one of 20 songs he wrote for his 14th album Red Bandana.

The opening noise of a radio scanning on County Radio is a tribute to his father.

“My dad is a disabled veteran and he had a cleaning business,” Watson confessed.

“Growing up, he had this dolly with a trashcan wired to it. It was southern ingenuity at its finest. And he would hang the cleaning bottles around the rim of the trashcan. And then he had a hangar with a little AM/FM battery-powered radio wired to the handle of this dolly. As we cleaned toilets and classrooms at churches, we were listening to music, and he'd not only tell me who sang the song, he'd tell me what year it came out, the writers and some of the players on the songs. So I learned a lot about music like that, and I took that old radio and recorded the fuzz of the AM signal.”

Aaron, 42, and father of three follows that tradition.

ROO ARCUS TUMBLEWEEDS

Goulburn grazier Roo Arcus sings for his supper as he keeps dingoes from his door in frequent droughts and bushfires.

Arcus returns to Nu Country with his video for Tumbleweeds - first single on his fourth album recorded in Nashville.

And, like those weeds, he tumbled back to his wife Sue in his beat-up truck as Roo and Sue saved their horses and family farm at Parkesbourne.

The song is about a drifter who blows in and out of town like a tumbleweed - the person who just can't stay still long enough to win the heart of the love of their life.

“When I heard the demo for the song, I knew straight away that I was going to record it,” Roo revealed.

“It ticked a lot of boxes for me. Great melody, it was very country, had a good story that I know a lot of people will relate to and a hook line I just couldn't get out of my head.”

Roo took an eight year break from recording after his mum was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2004 and droughts decimated farms - including their Southern Tablelands family property.

Arcus struck gold early when late bush balladeer Slim Dusty recorded his tune Ringers, Rigs and Drivers for his trucking album Making A Mile.

The song - written about a traffic jam when 13 road trains pulled into the Arcus family farm - also landed Roo a 12-month stint as Slim's touring partner.

Touring tutelage with Dusty and bandleader - former New Zealand dairy farmer Rod Coe - enabled Arcus to cut his 2000 debut album Station Boy, second album This Here Cowboy and third album Cowboys & Sunsets.
