JOHN PAUL WHITE HEADLINES NU COUNTRY TV
Four-time Grammy winner and April tourist John Paul White headlines Nu Country TV on Saturday February 22 at 9.30 pm on Channel 31/ Digital 44.
Kentuckians Carly Pearce and Dillon Carmichael perform on the show hosted by Mid Pacific Bob Olson, and repeated Tuesday at 5 am.
Ferny Creek singer-songwriter Brendan McMahon returns to the program filmed and edited by Laith Graham.
Kuranda born Jade Holland and Inverell raised singer-songwriter Melanie Dyer boomerang with new videos.
Nu Country TV is a highlight of C 31 streaming list on Digital 44.

John Paul White takes viewers on the lost highway and studio in his new video to promote his ill-fated April tour with former Chicago postie John Prine, now 73. Prine and White were scheduled to play St Kilda Palais on April 14, Sydney and Adelaide but Prine has been struck down by a recurring hip injury and cancelled all tours and concerts. |
The Long Way Home depicts struggles with the loneliness of a touring musician often separated from his wife, Jenny, three children and hometown.
White explained the song captured a feeling that became more meaningful when he realised how it affected his children.
“I struggle every day with being a touring musician,” White revealed.
“There was a time when I loved it. There was a time when it excited me to see new cities and play bigger venues, all of that. It was a lot of fun. And it's not really a "been there, done that" kind of thing; it just doesn't really excite me the way it did. I miss my kids. I miss my wife. I miss my little town. So it's always a tug of war, getting me back out on the road. I love it when I'm onstage. All the other stuff, I could leave.”
He recorded the song on his fourth solo album The Hurting Kind at his home studio in North Alabama
White, now 47, was born in Florence, Alabama, and raised on a chicken farm in Loretta, Tennessee.
He topped charts with Joy Williams in their Civil Wars duo.
He wrote new originals with Bobby Braddock, Sanger D “Whitey” Shafer, Wayland Holyfield and Paul Overstreet.
White also penned I Wish I Could Write You a Song and You Lost Me with Whispering Bill Anderson, now 81.
He wrote This Isn't Gonna End Well - featuring Lee Ann Womack and Lillie May - with Bobby Braddock, 79, and collaborated with Shafer on the last song Shafer wrote before he died in 2018.

CARLY PEARCE AND LEE BRICE RETURN

Kentuckian Carly Pearce returns live to Behind Bars with South Carolina born Lee Brice.
Carly, now 30, wed fellow country star Michael Ray in 2018 and performs I Hope You Are Happy Now on her second album released on Valentines' Day.
She wrote the song with North Carolina star Luke Combs, Randy Montana and Jonathan Singleton.
“So much has happened to me in the last few years,” revealed Carly who hails from Taylor Hill, fronted a bluegrass band at 11, played a prison gig at 14 and debuted at Dollywood at 16.
“My fans have changed my life and given my music a home in this world. I grew up, let go of things that needed to go, fell in love, fell on my face, went through some hell and found Carly fully for the first time ever. This record is dedicated to my late producer Busbee. It's the last full record he made and one that I am so very proud of. Thank you for bringing these songs to life. I can't wait to honour you and hear/see how people connect to what we created.”
Busbee died in September, aged just 43, after a battle with glioblastoma.
He produced Pearce's debut album Every Little Thing and co-wrote her #1 debut single of the same name.
Pearce previously appeared on Nu Country with Hide The Wine and Every Little Thing and with West Texan Josh Abbott with Wasn't That Drunk from Josh's fourth album Front Row Seat.
Brice and Georgian Kip Moore toured here together in 2019.
Kip returns to the13 th CMC Rocks Queensland Festival in Ipswich and Margaret Court Arena on March 17.
Lee, now 40, and father of three children, has released four albums.

DILLON CARMICHAEL

Fellow Kentucky born beau Dillon Carmichael once worked as a security guard at the Grand Ole Opry while he was writing and singing for his supper.
Dillon, now 25, prefers fishing to shopping but plays entrees for weddings in his Nu Country debut.
His new video I Do For You is title track of his EP that follows debut 2018 album Hell On An Angel, produced by Dave Cobb.
The album featured earthy originals It's Simple and That's What Hank Would Do and comparisons to Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton and Shooter Jennings.
Dillon's mother Becky Montgomery was a vocalist in Montgomery Family Band that featured her brothers John Michael Montgomery and Montgomery Gentry singer Eddie Montgomery.
His writing talent earned him a song-writing contract offer at 17 but didn't sign a publishing deal until after high school graduation in Burgin.
In 2015 Dillon funded his song-writing as a security guard at the Opry House where being that close to the spotlight fuelled his dreams of an appearance on country's most hallowed stage.
"My boss said to me, 'one of the good things about doing security at the Opry is you can stand in the circle and no one will say anything about it because you're security,'" Dillon recalled.
"I told him, 'You know, man, there's something in me that just won't let me do that right now.' I wanted to be introduced and be playing music in that circle. So I avoided it for a year and a half, and finally, that debut night, I stepped into it for the first time, and there was a certain energy I never felt before. It's just overwhelming. I'll think about that when I take my last breath."

MELANIE DYER'S MEMPHIS TEE SHIRT

Melanie Dyer was raised on a Mt Russell farm near Inverell before she graduated from The Voice TV show.
Melanie, now 25, lives in Sydney and has since played in the U.S. and beyond.
While in Nashville in late 2018 she played the famed Bluebird Café and took a trip to Graceland in Memphis and bought a T-shirt from a Beale Street tourist shop.
The next day she wore that shirt to a writing session and wrote Memphis T - Shirt with Nashville based Canadians Karen Kosowski and Emma-Lee.
Karen also produced the song for Dyer's second album.
Melanie's debut EP produced chart singles Lifetime, Busy Doing Nothing and All You Need to Know About Me.
In 2017 Melanie released debut album Fresh with the title track and Save My Cents topping charts.
She was a Top 10 finalist in the International Songwriting Competition in 2018 and opened shows for The McClymonts , Adam Eckersley & Brooke McClymont, James Reyne and Diesel.

BRENDAN MCMAHON HOLDS ON

Ferny Creek singer-songwriter Brendan McMahon was inspired by the dementia battle of a close relative for the song that inspired his new live video.
He performed Hold On to promote his fourth album - In The Moment .
“It's performed as an upbeat song but I wrote that for my wife. It relates to her mother who has dementia - Alzheimers ,” McMahon explained.
“It's a song of support - she is 77. It's a horrible disease.”

JADE HOLLAND DREAMS WILD

Kuranda born Jade Holland acts out her dreams in her new video.
Jade, now 32, grew up in Townsville and now lives in Newcastle .
The young mother had gymnastic and vocal support in the salon, campfires and garage in her video for Dream Wild - title track of her second album recorded in Nashville.
“ Dream Wild was inspired after a car accident and realizing life is too short, not to live it,” Jade revealed.
“It's about being a free soul, a little wild, following your dreams and no matter what keeping them alive.”
