Further info - https://www.c31.org.au/ TROY MATERNAL JOY AND PATERNAL PAIN Troy Cassar-Daley has good reasons to write nostalgic loco songs - his mum Irene worked train buffet cars when they lived in Grafton. So it's fitting that Trains is one of two locomotive songs reprised on his 42 track Greatest Hits CD and featured on our show. But there was also recent train pain for Troy, 49 and father of two, now touring with daughter Jem, 17, to promote his album. Troy 's dad Tony Cassar died at 75 on April 1 this year. Tony arrived in Australia from Malta as an eight-year-old, speaking very little English and left school to work in a factory. Troy, winner of six ARIA Awards and 37 Golden Guitars, was once a Nu Country TV host. Jimmy Barnes recently recorded a Troy song Shutting Down Our Town for his new album My Criminal Record. In 2005 Troy and Jimmy had a hit with their duet of Leonard Cohen's Bird On A Wire. It won vocal collaboration at the 2006 Golden Guitar Awards. Droze grew up in Alabama knowing music was his life. “It's as if I was inserted with a computer chip that made my life revolve around music,” Droze revealed. Father Bob, a dedicated country, gospel and bluegrass musician, is still active in his 80s. Billy was on stage with Bob since he was 4 years old and spent his childhood singing with him in churches, bluegrass festivals and honky-tonks. He developed a passion for traditional country, gospel, and roots music. Droze learned guitar when he was 12 and as a teenager he walked miles down country roads, carrying his guitar, just to play songs. At 16 Billy followed his dad to Texas and spent a year in his band. Then after rambling around Texas he moved to Nashville and sang for Grammy winners Shenandoah (using the name Billy Ryan).
