TEMPLETON THOMPSON RIDES LIKE THE WIND

Texan troubadour Templeton Thompson enlisted some help from veteran cosmic cowboy Michael Martin Murphey on her Nu Country debut.

Thompson was raised on a 100 acre horse stud at Glen Rose and learned to play guitar left handed at 16 after almost losing two fingers trying to hitch a horse.

It followed eight operations on her left hand.

She said her mother rode horses while pregnant and "I came into this world horse crazy."

Ride a Wide Circle is on Hippie Chic Cowgirl - the eighth album by Thompson.

Thompson wed fellow musician-songwriting partner Sam Gay and in 2014 recorded one of their songs Bring it on Home, Chrome in honor of race horse California Chrome.

A portion of profits went to the Thoroughbred retirement facility Old Friends Equine.

Her horse Jane was immortalized as a Breyer Model Horse .

Murphey, 73, has recorded 36 albums covering outlaw country, bluegrass and western music since breaking with equine classic Wildfire.

He appeared in 1981 Hard Country movie with Jan-Michael Vincent and Kim Basinger and scored the soundtrack.

Michael releases new album Austinology: Alleys of Austin on October 5.

JEN AND MARK HEAD DOWN PIONEER COWBOY LANE

Expatriate Georgian Jen Mize and APRA winner Mark Sholtez expand our equine theme and take us back to the golden past of western music singing actors.

Jen and Mark enjoy time travel in Riding Down The Canyon on their 13 track disc Twilight on the Trail , released on April 1.

They perform songs from the era of singing western actors Tex Ritter, Roy Roger, Gene Autry and Dale Evans.

"The music, the people that I respect, they listen to this music and you can hear it time-lined down from Roy and Gene to Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt,” Mize explained.

“I can hear that all happening, my heroes, these guys were their heroes."

Riding Down The Canyon is a 1942 song by Roy Rogers & The Sons Of The Pioneers .

"The thing I really love about this record is that it feels both unexpected and nostalgic, yet we have created something really fresh,” Scholtez added.

Mize hails from a long line of moonshiners in the Carolinas and Georgia mountains but lives inside the law on Queensland's Sunshine Coast with her husband.

She met him when she was singing on a cruise ship in New Zealand in 2004 singing on a cruise ship and they moved here in 2006.

Jen was raised on a ranch on the outskirts of Las Vegas where both parents worked at the Sahara Casino.

“I moved to Australia to find myself - that age-old tale,” revealed Mize.

“And, for the first time, who I am as a person started to dictate who I am as an artist.”

Jen wrote 10 originals for debut album Fear, Pride & A Few Stubborn Angels and debuted on Nu Country with social comment tune Deepwater .

Shane Nicholson produced her second album Warnings And Wisdom.

Mize's journey included casino singing and hypnotist's assistant at MGM, New York, Venetian, Luxor, Mandalay Bay and Las Vegas Academy performing arts high school.

Her choir sang at the White House and she performed as soloist in a Christmas program for Hillary Clinton before winning a scholarship to Boston Conservatory's Musical Theatre.

“I was truly able to see the world. I visited and performed in more than fifty countries on every continent but Antarctica,” Jen revealed.

“I quad biked across ninety-foot sand dunes in Namibia, rode horses in Iceland, held a sloth in the Amazon, and even drove a dog sled team on a glacier in Alaska.”

Singer-songwriter Sholtez has released two CDS recorded in New York and Los Angeles.

HAYLEY JENSEN SATURDAY NIGHT

Albury born Hayley Jensen celebrates time she treasures in Saturday Night - penned with Daniel Skeed for her second album Turning Up The Dial , released on May 11.

Hayley boomeranged after losing her dad two years ago to cancer and honoured him with You're With Me that she wrote with expat Australian Phil Barton.

“The heartache that comes with losing someone you love, particularly a parent, is absolutely debilitating,” Hayley, now 35, revealed.

“He was one of my biggest supporters and sources of encouragement in life, particularly in music. He was so proud of me. I wanted to succeed, just to make him happy. Some days I'll look in the mirror and almost see him in my reflection, well the expressions, and smile that he passed on to me anyway. And sometimes when I laugh or am having a conversation with someone, I can almost hear his voice or his joke instead of my own. I miss our curious conversations and his strong yet warm and loving embrace. My favourite line in this song is ‘even though I can't wrap my arms around you, you're with me'. And even though he is no longer here on this earth, I really do feel that he is still with me, proud as punch, clearing the path before me and helping to light my way.”

She recorded Turn Up The Dial in the U.S. with Grammy and Emmy award-winning producer, Jamie Tate.

It features co-writes with award-winning songwriters, including Barton, Jerry Salley, Alex Seier and label mate Kirsty Lee Akers.

Hayley launched her Social Family Records album in Canberra before gigs in Albury, Melbourne, Sydney and UK Buckle & Boots Festival .

“This album is an eclectic mix of feelings and emotions, but regardless of the feel, all songs have a really special meaning to me,” Hayley explained.

“From falling in love to losing a loved one, having a fun night out with your friends, to chasing dreams whilst battling the grind of the 9-5 - they're about real life stories, my stories and I think you'll be able to relate.”

She also wrote Forever Won't Be Long Enough for her husband with acclaimed songwriter, Jerry Salley, in Nashville.

“I knew I wanted to write a song for our wedding that captured the way I felt about him, and I knew Jerry, who is very well known and for writing award-winning, extraordinary love ballads, would be the perfect person to write this special song with. The idea behind this song is that all of my days on this earth won't be nearly enough to express how I feel about him, or to experience all that we dream of doing together. We danced to this song on our wedding day and it was the most romantic moment ever! I hope other couples will love this song too and use it for their first dance, experiencing the same rush that we felt on that special day.”
