DIERKS AND BROTHERS OSBORNE RESCUE BURNING MAN

Dierks Bentley and Brothers Osborne enrich our healthy living episode with their video inspired by a heart attack survivor.

They perform Burning Man from Dierks 11th album The Mountain.

Dierks toured in 2012 with Australian Of The Year Lee Kernaghan and attracted former St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt and high flying Carlton star Andrew Walker and David Ellingham to their St Kilda Palais concert.

Brothers Osborne played CMC Rocks Queensland at Ipswich in March on their 2018 tour.

Dierks, 42, wrote and recorded songs for The Mountain in Telluride, Colorado, with peers diverse as Natalie Hemby, Luke Dick, Ross Copperman, Jon Randall, Jon Nite and Ashley Gorley.

“We all went out there and got completely off the grid, out of our normal element and the grind that happens on Music Row ," Bentley explained, "and it was, from the very get-go, magic."

Dierks wrote first single Woman Amen with Copperman and Josh Kear about his love for wife Cassidy.

Bentley appeared on Nu Country in March with his tribute to courageous fire fighters in home state Arizona.

The Granite Mountain Hotshots , an elite wild-land fire-fighting crew who fought dangerous wild fires, lost 19 firefighters in the Yarnell Hill Fire in June 2013.

Bentley revisited the tragedy in Hold The Light , featured in 2017 movie Only The Brave with Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Kitsch and Jennifer Connelly.

Dierks opened his Whiskey Row music venue on Lower Broadway in Nashville on January 14.

Brothers T.J. Osborne, 32, and John, 35, recently performed Weed, Whiskey & Willie and Shoot Me Straight from second album Port Saint Joe on Nu Country.

It was named after a small Florida Coast town where they recorded the album.

They also appeared with 21 Summer from debut album Pawn Shop that reached #3 on Billboard.

CATHERINE BRITT INSPIRED BY RED DIRT

Catherine Britt and her band The Cold, Cold Hearts return to our show with a video filmed in the red dirt at Silverton near Broken Hill.

The Novocastrian singer, now 33, bounced back from breast cancer to give birth to her son and her seventh CD.

Britt's video was directed by Brock Daubert and James Fox and produced by Duncan Toombs.

Many scenes were filmed in the Silverton hotel that Catherine and her husband run for a month each year.

They also host the Silverton Sunset Music Festival.

The Cold, Cold Hearts album was recorded in Catherine's own studio, built in her backyard and dubbed Beverley Hillbilly Studios.

“I came up with this idea three years ago on our honeymoon while we were travelling in our camper in WA,” revealed Britt who also publishes Rhythms magazine.

“I didn't know what to do next after Boneshaker but I knew I didn't want to do the overseas thing again and that I wanted to do something more organic and at home. I thought of building the studio and doing it ourselves. I've always wanted to do one of those artist and a band projects like Ryan Adams & The Cardinals and Emmylou Harris & The Hot Band . It's still the artist but they have this band of mates behind them. When I was writing the album I was going back to when I was a kid and rediscovering that music that I grew up on. I thought about who would get that and pull it off and these guys were perfect. When you're making a record and going out on the road it's really important that there's a good vibe and you're all on the same page.”

MICHAEL WAUGH CHICKEN PICKING HUMOUR

Gippsland dairy farmer's son and secondary school teacher and singer-songwriter Michael Waugh exuded some fowl frivolity in a video torn from his family home pages.

The Scotch College media and arts teacher showed how his mum told her boss to take his chickens and stuff them in his animated true life story.

Willy's Chickens is on Waugh's second album The Asphalt & The Oval that was produced by Shane Nicholson.

Waugh, 47, has also written songs about his dad and brothers on his two acclaimed albums he tours to promote during school holidays.

HONK SUCCESS NEVER PLANNED

Fellow bush born musician and former National Party Upper House state MP David O'Brien and his sextet Honk debut with a video recorded in Abbotsford.

Members of Honk met at school and began playing together in the late eighties but were resurrected two years ago at the Carringbush Hotel.

Fellow barristers O'Brien and Tim Hoare and Honk band-mates Andrew Parisi, Julian Lambert, Luke Savage and Ed Prendergast are honky tonk veterans.

And it was at Gippsland born Weddings, Parties, Anything singer-songwriter Mick Thomas's Yarra Hotel, Abbotsford, they performed She Picks Me Up on debut EP Never Planned they promote at local gigs this month.

When O'Brien, who owns a farm at Penshurst south of Hamilton, was a state Upper House MP he shared chambers with latter day Federal Minister Damian Drum.

Former Fremantle coach Drum once sang country songs on the Geelong footy club bus before and after the 63 VFL games he played with the Cats.

Honk plan to release its debut album in September.

“We are all outlaw country tragics so there's a lot of common love of the rough diamonds of the 1970s,” the band revealed.

“We write songs about the underdog, about losing in love, falling asleep on trains, and perhaps overindulging. It's not just country though - we also blend in rock, blues, boogie, jazz and soul. It's music that is meant to be fun, and meant to be played live.”

They filmed previous video Barry's Lament at the former Penshurst courthouse.

Their song told the tale of a court case and highlighted parallels between the lives of an accused criminal and the judge overseeing the case.

LORI MCKENNA FAMILY WISDOM

Dual Grammy winner Lori McKenna illustrates family memories and challenges of ageing in her evocative new video People Get Old on her 12th album The Tree.

The Massachusetts mother of five, now 49, proves why she's a prolific hit writer and true survivor in her eclectic music.

Lori penned Grammy winning Little Big Town hit Girl Crush and singing actor Tim McGraw's smash Humble And Kind.

Her previous video The Bird & The Rifle is also title of her Dave Cobb produced 11th album.

McKenna and Brandy Clark, 40, wrote Three Kids No Husband for Lori's eighth album Numbered Doors in 2014 after meeting a woman with five children and no husband.

It also appeared on Clark's second album Big Day In A Small Town and was inspired by a YouTube video Clark created to introduce Pray to Jesus from her 2013 album 12 Stories .

Lori and Texan troubadour Sunny Sweeney also wrote recent Sweeney hits Bottle By My Bed and

Nothing Wrong With Texas .

MONTGOMERY GENTRY DOWN SOUTH

Kentucky duo Montgomery Gentry return to our show with a video filmed just before Troy Gentry died at 50 in a helicopter crash.

Gentry and partner Eddie Montgomery return to their rural roots in idyllic imagery for Get Down South from their ninth album Here's To You.

They illustrate clever use of a pick-up in a pick-up truck, replete with canine capers.

It was recorded before Troy's death on September 8, 2017 - the same day Texan singing actor Don Williams died aged 78.

The album arose like a Phoenix after the helicopter crash at the Flying W airport in Medford, New Jersey en route to a concert.

Troy and duo partner Eddie, who turned 54 just 22 days later, planned to perform new songs from their album at the concert.

“Our world was turned upside down in an instant and nothing could have prepared us for this," Eddie revealed.

“Over the past few months T-Roy and I have been working on what I think is the best record of our career. In the last few weeks we had been talking about what our first single would be. Then on September 8 none of that mattered."

Eddie toured in February to support the album - it would have been the band's 20th anniversary.

Better Me , one of those new songs, was played during Gentry's memorial at the Grand Ole Opry on September 14.

"Better Me is a song we all loved and Troy sings his ass off on it," Montgomery added.

"It speaks volumes about his life and who he had become and everyone he touched and how much he loved his family. I am so proud of this song and also to call him my friend, my family, my brother for 30 years."
