Big & Rich return with a travelogue about a brunette who decamps Nashville and heads out on Route 66 on a joyous journey to the west coast. California - the song's destination - is on the duo's sixth album Did It For The Party . Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich rocked the historic Billboard club in Melbourne CBD with Cowboy Troy and Tennessean troubadour Chris Young on their 2015 Australian tour - their second. It was even more momentous than an hilarious scene in TV show Boston Legal when James Spader mounted a mechanical bull in Texas to the Big & Rich hit, Save A Horse - Ride A Cowboy. Singing actor Tim McGraw played a bartender in previous Big & Rich video for Loving Lately - co-written by Big Kenny, John Rich and Tim who has toured here twice - for their fifth album Gravity . McGraw, now 50 and singing spouse of Faith Hill, served drinks to a loser in love at a bar in Dickson - one time home of veteran outlaw David Allan Coe - south west of Nashville. It's also near Fairview where Steve Earle lived with Teresa - one of his seven wives. CLICK HERE for a Big & Rich CD feature in The Diary on August 29, 2007. SONS OF THE PALOMINO GET RICH Californian band Sons Of The Palomino debut on Nu Country with a little help from a friend - John Rich - in their video for Countryholic . The band took its name from embryonic North Hollywood Palomino cowboy bar - a popular locale in many movies. The Palomino , at 6907 Lankershim Boulevard , was founded by Western swing bandleader Hank Penny and business partner Amand Gautier around 1949-50. It featured artists diverse as Texan crime novelist Kinky Friedman & his Texas Jewboys , Flying Burrito Brothers and singing actors Lyle Lovett and Dwight Yoakam and the late Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley. The Palomino was a hangout for struggling actors and stuntmen in their salad days including Clint Eastwood and stuntman-TV cowboy Hal Needham. It was featured in Clint's 1978 and 1980 movies Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can . Other Palomino movie scenes included The Other Side of the Mountain Part 2 (1978), Hooper (1978) with Burt Reynolds, Jan-Michael Vincent and Sally Field, Minnie and Moskowitz (1971) and the pilot episode of The Fall Guy starring Lee Majors and Lou Rawls. Celebrated singer-songwriter Jeffrey Steele, now 55, founded Sons Of The Palomino long after he broke on Nu Country FM in our radio era with his nineties Californian band Boy Howdy . Steele also earned his stripes playing in the Palomino house band in the sixties and seventies. Sons of the Palomino feature veteran steel guitarist Paul Franklin, fiddler Larry Franklin, drummer Jerry Roe, pianist Tony Harrell, guitarist James Mitchell and bassist Brad Albin. Countryholic is a healthy hybrid of old-school honky-tonk with clever, rapid-fire wordplay credits to Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. " Countryholic is a 100 proof honky-tonk song that will make you want to holler yee-haw!" say Steele. "That song is icing on the cake of a project three years in the making with an all-star cast of musicians and guests who are all helping to capture an era in music that seems to have vanished." The clip for Countryholic , penned by Steele with Ira Dean and Shane Minor, was shot at Green's Grocery in Leiper's Fork, just outside Nashville . It's the lead track from the Sons of the Palomino's debut album, released June 30 on 3 Ring Circus - the company founded by Steele. It also feature duets with Emmylou Harris, John Anderson, Gretchen Wilson, Vince Gill and Jamey Johnson. Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame 2013 inductee Steele is a Golden Globe-nominated writer. His hits include Tim McGraw's The Cowboy in Me , Rascal Flatts smash What Hurts the Most , Trace Adkins Chrome and LeAnn Rimes Big Deal and dozens of others. Sahm, who died at 59 in 1999, broke in the sixties with his Sir Douglas Quintet before a colourful solo career and stint with the Texas Tornados. Meyers Vox organ was a familiar element of the quintet sound on She's About a Mover (1964), Mendocino (1969) and Nuevo Laredo (1970.) Sahm and San Antonio born Augie, now 78, never made it to Australia . But fellow San Antone accordionist Flaco, also 78, played the San Remo ballroom in Carlton on one of his tours. Freddy, who toured Australia several times and appeared in the Dukes Of Hazzard TV show, made headlines on one of his visits to Tamworth . Eltham promoter Wally Bishop's limo suffered a flat battery and Texan Fender earned loud applause when he pushed it past the Travelodge swimming pool in a spirited sprint to jump start it. Freddy, born Baldemar Garza Huerta, on June 4, 1937, in San Benito died at 69 on October 14, 2006, in Corpus Christi . The singer, also in Los Super Seven , had major 1975 solo hits Before the Next Teardrop Falls and a remake of his own 1959 Wasted Days and Wasted Nights . But in May 1960 he and a band member were arrested for marijuana possession in Baton Rouge , Louisiana . After serving nearly three years in the Angola prison farm he was released through intervention of Governor Jimmie Davis - a singing actor whose big hits included You Are My Sunshine . In 1988 Fender played the mayor of a small New Mexico town in the Robert Redford directed film The Milagro Beanfield War. Freddy also appeared as Tony in the prison movie Short Eyes - a 1977 film adaptation directed by Robert M. Young of the Miguel Pinero play. Fender played the role of Pancho Villa in 1979's She Came to the Valley later released as Texas in Flames . The movie was directed by Albert Band and based on the book by Cleo Dawson. The video opens with a road sign reading Tulsa City Limits. It's a song about personalised time travel featuring images of Moreland's hometown, his crew and various tour stops. There's even a credit to local band Lizard Police - part of the Tulsa hardcore scene where the singer-songwriter got his start. Three of Moreland's songs - Heaven, Gospel and Your Spell - were featured in famed TV show Sons Of Anarchy. Moreland, now 31, shares his Texas birthplace Longview with country singers Miranda Lambert, Rodney Carrington and Neal McCoy and Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey. Moreland - son of an electrical engineer - grew up in a conservative Southern Baptist family who travelled across state borders. When he was a baby they moved to Northern Kentucky, across the river from Cincinnati , Ohio. Moreland relocated to Norman , Oklahoma , but recently moved back to Tulsa . And, like Ray Wylie Hubbard and other singer-songwriters swimming outside the mainstream, Moreland scored exposure on nocturnal TV variety TV shows. Moreland performed Break My Heart Sweetly from 2013 album In The Throes on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert whose predecessor David Letterman also gave exposure to neglected artists. Colbert held up the cover of Moreland's 2015 album High On Tulsa Heat. It helped propel Moreland from his self-produced mail order indie releases - some with his previous groups Black Gold Soul and Dust Bowl Souls - to the Fellowship Hall Sound studio in Little Rock , Arkansas , with extra recording in Memphis.
