JASMINE RAE, ADAM BRAND AND MATT CORNELL RETURN TO NU COUNTRY TV
Fawkner singer Jasmine Rae, duet partner Adam Brand and fellow Outlaws band member Matt Cornell return to Nu Country TV at 9 pm on Saturday April 15 on Channel 31/Digital 44.
Kentucky born Grammy winner Sturgill Simpson also appears on the show filmed and edited by Laith Graham and repeated Monday at 8 am and Sunday at 1 am.
North Carolina singer-songwriter Luke Combs also returns and English duo The Shires debut.

Fawkner singer-songwriter Jasmine Rae bound and gagged a home invader in her humorous new video for Everybody Wants To Take My Money - fourth single from her fourth album Heartbeat. She also walked on the villain and locked him inside a room as she sings about money growing on trees but not in her home suburb Fawkner. “This song is an outlet to vent, let out your frustrations and express yourself,” Rae, 29, revealed. “I wrote the song in Nashville with Shelley Skidmore, Clint Moffatt and Bob Moffatt. We shot the video on a beautiful property in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.” Jasmine last appeared on Nu Country with her video for Eggs In A Basket - third single from Heartbeat. She also released If He Calls - her tribute to expat Scottish singer-songwriter Karl Broadie who lost his battle with cancer on April 19, 2016, at the age of 44. |
Edinburgh born Karl moved to the historic Nundle village near Tamworth with his family before he succumbed to his illness.

SAILOR STURGILL SIMPSON

Kentuckian Sturgill Simpson quit the railways in Utah six years ago to follow his music dreams to Nashville and triumphed when he won the Grammy for best country artist in February.
He returns to Nu Country with his video for All Around You from his big selling third album
A Sailor's Guide To Earth that debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200.
Sales surged after Simpson's Grammy win.
The young boy in the video emulates Sturgill in the forest and finds a gold ring shaped like a heart.
Sturgill, now 38, is the son of a former narcotics and homicide detective who was head of security for four consecutive Kentucky governors.
Multi-instrumentalist bluegrass buff and former U.S. Navy seaman Sturgill was also a train conductor on Union Pacific.
Trains are not just a metaphor for Simpson but a monetary wheel spinner.
“I worked for Union Pacific,” Simpson revealed recently.
“I started out as a conductor at an intermodal switching facility outside of Salt Lake City . We'd pull in trains from all over the country, break them apart, consolidate the freight and build other trains. It was great until I screwed up and took a management position. Then it became no fun very quickly.
“I hit complete soul-sucking rock bottom, and for the first time in years, I started getting the guitar back out. Finally my boss said, ‘I know you're miserable, so why don't you give music an honest go.' I had my wife's full support. We sold everything and moved to Nashville about four years ago. I don't regret it so far.”
Sturgill hails from the hollers of East Kentucky and shook hands with snake handlers in his local Pentecostal church as a young man.

LUKE COMBS MOONSHINE

North Carolina outlaw Luke Combs makes the most of mixed moonshine messages in his home state in his video for Let The Moonshine from his debut album This One's For You .
Luke, just 27, grew up in music mecca Asheville.
Combs released three indie EPs The Way She Rides in February 2014 and Can I Get an Outlaw the same year and third EP This One's For You in November, 2015.
Combs first single Hurricane reached Top 10 on iTunes and debuted at 46 on Billboard .
Hurricane was an accidental hit born from a $200 mistake that almost derailed his career.
Combs saved enough money for what he thought would be a six-song EP.
That figure was based on what he paid for his first two DIY projects.
"We recorded six tracks, and when they got done producer Scott Moffatt (of 90's Canadian boy band The Moffatts ,) was like, 'Hey man, we need to master these,' and I was like, 'what's that?'" Combs revealed.
"I never mastered my first two, I just mixed them. I think the price was $200 per song, so I was like, 'I don't have $200 per song, and I'm not going to have it.'"
Combs went home as they hadn't even cut his final vocals but one song sounded good enough: Hurricane.
After scraping together cash Combs mastered just that track.
They released it on iTunes and sold 14,000 copies in the first week, allowing Combs to finish the album and pay Moffatt, who was working for IOUs.
Luke is now touring with Georgian Brantley Gilbert to promote his album that includes Hurricane, One Number Away, When It Rains It Pours, I Got a Way With You and the title track.

THE SHIRES NASHVILLE GREY SKIES

English duo The Shires toured Melbourne in March with Aleyce Simmonds after the 10 th CMC Rocks Queensland festival at Ipswich . They debut on Nu Country with Nashville Grey Skies from huge selling second album My Universe that exceeded the 100,000 sales of 2015 debut disc Brave. The Shires - Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes - hail from Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. They visited Australia last year on a promo tour after signing with U.S. Big Machine label - home of Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett. |
The Shires recorded their album at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville after other artists diverse as Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Lady Antebellum .
Ben joined Nashville writers Brian White, Jeff Cohen and Kip Moore, who toured here in March, for songs on the album.
And Crissie wrote Daddy's Little Girl with Cohen , Victoria Banks and Canadian country artist Livy Jeanne Richardson.
“The three of them all had their dads in their lives, but I didn't tell them that mine wasn't still here,” Crissie confessed.
“It's just a very personal song and a tribute to my dad, and how special he made me feel. Playing it at our showcase, apparently there were tears in the audience, so it feels like daughters and dads and everyone will be able to relate to it.”
Ben's solo composition Everything You Never Gave is equally poignant.
“It's basically about an absent father, because my dad was never there,” Ben explained.
“It's really important to bear your soul like that, because there'll be loads of people who relate to it, and to Crissie's song, and go ‘Wow, that's me.' Even if it's painful, it's cathartic.”
That lyric hits hard because Ben recently became a father.
It happened right before a gig - the Glastonbury Festival.
“The whole thing's a big step up really, the sound of it is just a lot bigger,” says Ben.
“ My Universe is all about the Shires' universe and it's all set to become part of everyone else's.”

ADAM BRAND GETS ON HIS FEET

Perth born singer-songwriter and restaurateur Adam Brand returns here next week on his national tour. The singer, raised in Colac and Wallington near Geelong , performs the singalong title track of 13th album Get On Your Feet that was recorded in Nashville and Rancom Street studio in Sydney. “I knew I was ready to make a new record. I was looking for great songs that I wanted to sing. Every song had to be a song that I wanted to press repeat on when I was driving in the car,” revealed Adam, now 47. Brand, who owns two Brandy's restaurants in Townsville and Coffs Harbour , wrote new songs with Nashville songwriters Erin Enderlin and Alex Kline. “I felt like I needed to do something fun and different,” said of his recording and touring with The Outlaws . “The Outlaws was a nice segue. The idea had been in my head for years. I wanted a break from being me.'' Adam is touring with fellow Outlaws singer Matt Cornell and coal-miner's daughter Gemma Kirby.
“I am excited by what Matt and Gemma can bring to this tour”, says Adam, “be prepared for non-stop party action and fun - anything could happen!”

MATT CORNELL IN THIS TOWN

Matt Cornell is touring nationally with Adam Brand to promote his video for the title track of his third album In This Town.
Matt wrote it about two major characters - a retired boxer and a young mother of three children, aged under seven, who lost her husband in Iraq .
The son of Wayne Cornell - lead singer of sixties band The Delltones - highlights home town Ermington.
“ In This Town is a song about a beautiful little town, a place where everyone wants to live, where everyone's got your back, no matter who you are, what you do, or what you look like,” Cornell revealed.
“If you're going through a hard time - the people will help you through it.”
Some scenes were shot at his mate Dave's Cake Shop , at the home of a neighbour Matt has known for over 30 years, Castle Hill Boxing Club and old friend Tom's coffee shop, Laziza Café .
“One thing I always try and do, is get friends to play cameo roles in my videos. In this one I managed to get my mates Wayne, Tom & Dave little parts, I reckon they get a kick out of it,” says Matt.
“The first verse is about a much loved old boxer that everyone knows, he's a little punch drunk & hard to understand when he walks down the road they still call him “champ”.
“The second verse is about a woman who has lost her husband in Iraq , and raising three kids under seven on her own. In her town she is the hero.”
Cornell expanded his chorus when he finished it with Blue Mountains singer-songwriter Allan Caswell.
“When I played the chorus idea to Allan, it really struck a chord with him, he immediately came up with the line ‘nobody's a nobody in this town,' that went on to set the tone for the rest of the song.”
We also featured Cornell's video for Feels Like Yesterday, filmed in Austin , Texas , from his self-titled second album on July 6.
“My first EP that came out in 2007 was called Miles From Texas , so I've got a connection with Austin ,” Cornell explained.
It was a fitting locale - Austin was the birthplace of the American outlaw country genre featuring Shotgun Willie Nelson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joe Shaver, Guy Clark, Michael Martin Murphy, singing Texan crime novelist Kinky Friedman and the late Rusty Wier, Steve Fromholz and Townes Van Zandt.
