DIERKS BENTLEY ON A RISER

Dierks Bentley exploits his expertise behind the controls of his private jet, bike, bed and the river in his video for Say You Do - third single from his ninth album Riser.

RAY SCOTT DRINKING BEER

North Carolina born singer Ray Scott provides an amber libation to help soak up host Mid Pacific Bob Olson's latest summer recipe.

Drink That Beer , replete with aquatic imagery and bevy of beauties, is on his self-titled fourth album on his Jethropolitan label.

The singer, born Carlton Ray Scott, Jr. in Semora , North Carolina , started his first band at 19 and moved to Atlanta , Georgia , where he received an associate's degree at the Music Business Institute.

Scott then moved to Raleigh , North Carolina , and started another band before moving to Nashville .

His first two hits as a songwriter were A Few Questions by Texan Clay Walker and Pray for the Fish by Randy Travis.

He signed to Warner Brothers in 2005 and released his My Kind of Music album that produced three singles - My Kind of Music, Gone Either Way and I Didn't Come Here to Talk.

Scott released second album, Crazy Like Me , in 2008 on Jethropolitan and third disc Rayility in 2012.

“Every song is like a separate vignette in both subject matter and production, but it also exists as a complete body of work,” Ray says.

He wrote Drinkin' Beer with Tony Mullins, murder ballad Papa And Mama and enlisted Mark Stephen Jones to co-write Ain't Always Thirsty - a product of Scott's painful divorce.

Tijuana Buzzkill was written eight years ago.

“It's a true story, right down to having my foot peed on by a Mexican guy,” Scott says.

RICK HART SEARCHES FOR HUMMINGBIRDS

Rowville singer-songwriter Rick Hart returns with his video for Hummingbirds shot at Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges.

In his song Hart asks the question “is it wrong to assume that with all its imperfections love can conquer and consume”?

Director James Daniel filmed the video and Spiral - title track of his debut EP - on the historic streets of Carlton and Fitzroy with landmarks such as a small post office in Carlton and alleys off Nicholson and Brunswick Streets in Fitzroy.

This time the locale was further east.

Hart was honoured with Australian Songwriters Association Songwriter and ballad award for Spiral in November after beginning to record his debut album in October.

“I'm also planning a performance live shoot with my band The Sweet Addictions before the end of the year,” Hart told Nu Country during winter.

“I'm also planning to shoot a video for either Can't See The Light and Mess I'm In.”

Rick's evocative song My Hesitation - written with harmonist Jacques Gentil - won best ballad at 2012 Australian Songwriters' Association Awards.

Hart recorded his EP at Airwaves Recording Studio in Altona Meadows - it was mixed by former Little River Band guitarist, Wesley College graduate and Victoria University Sunbury lecturer David Briggs at The Production Workshop in North Melbourne .

TURK TRESIZE FRONT PORCH PICKING

Cannons Creek singer-songwriter Turk Tresize exercises front porch picking on his farm in his video for Miles N Miles - title track of his EP recorded in his Dairy Shed studio.

He was accompanied by a small dog, large horses and down home musicians as he checked out his round bales near the sleepy south Gippsland fishing village.

Turk will harvest music in his fifth Shed Rock music festival on February 7 and January tour with Georgian stone country singer Eric Lee Beddingfield.

Tresize works with Aussie musos who performed in England with him as Skippy's Nightmare .

But he didn't begin playing music until he was 20 when his mother gave him his first guitar - his friend in moments of solace ever since.

Like many rural rooted Australians he found truth and comfort in music while watching his family fight to keep their farm.

He built a recording studio in his farm milking shed, now aptly called The Shed .

The soundproofed studio provided Tresize the means to explore his passion for song-writing and laying down his own demos.

But Tresize travelled to Music City to record his debut album, Soul Casino at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville .

That studio specialises in recording and mixing entirely to tape.

After a long flight, a meeting and a few drinks he decided the final version of Soul Casino would be recorded and produced in Tennessee - with no Pro Tools or Auto-Tune.

Soul Casino was released in October 2013 under Turk's label, Dairy Shed Records .

The album is a healthy hybrid of southern rock, roots rock, blues, alternative country and Americana .

Turk took his show on the road in New York, Nashville, Atlanta, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut and Whiskey au Go-Go in Los Angeles.

Turk has since played festivals and clubs in and around Melbourne to showcase new single Daddy Wazza Roller that scored exposure on Pandora and terrestrial radio stations.
