JESSE DAYTON GETS KINKY WITH MARILYN AND JOE Texan Jesse Dayton performs the video for Marilyn And Joe - the poignant love song about late baseball legend Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe in Behind Bars . The song was penned by singing Texan crime novelist Kinky Friedman, now 69, who played The Toff In Town and Caravan Club in Oakleigh on his sixth Australian tour in November. Jesse also performed the song when he played The Kinkster in Texas stage play Becoming Kinky. Kinky recorded Marilyn And Joe on 1993 album Under The Double Ego on Sunrise Records and revived his classic on one of his tribute albums - Pearls In The Snow . Why The Hell Not? was the second Kinky tribute disc. Jesse has since recorded a third Kinkster tribute disc Jesse Sings Kinky . He is also well known for his guitar work on albums by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Dayton was born in Beaumont , Texas , and toured with two rockabilly bands, the Road Kings and the Alamo Jets. He has also cut 10 solo discs including Americana-chart-topping record Raisin' Cain . Jesse played on Jennings album Right For The Time after Waylon injured his picking thumb and required a guitar stand-in. In 2004 horror film director Rob Zombie commissioned Jesse Dayton to record an album for the fictional characters Banjo & Sullivan from his sophomore feature The Devil's Rejects . The resulting album was a collection of tongue-in-cheek honky-tonk country entitled Banjo & Sullivan: The Ultimate Collection. In Zombie's Halloween II , Dayton performs as lead singer-guitarist of fictional psychobilly band Captain Clegg & the Night Creatures . He also released an album Rob Zombie presents Captain Clegg & The Night Creatures (music from Halloween II ) on August 28 - same day as the film Halloween II premiered. Jason and his Wayward Apostles won a wide following after hooking up with producer Kevin Welch who lives at Wimberley near Austin . He recorded Judgment Day on his 2009 album When The Money's All Gone. Eady recorded three of his six albums with frequent Australian tourist Welch - his latest Daylight & Dark was released on January 21. OK Whiskey was the first single from the new album. “We put that out as a single here in Texas, and I've noticed the further I get away from Texas and Oklahoma, the less that song goes over because people don't know what that means'” says Eady. “In Texas and Oklahoma and Kansas , that song kills because it's a big deal there. It's a big thing that everybody talks about. It's from back in the post-prohibition days. They were restricted in the amount of alcohol content that beer can have. Anheuser-Busch brews a different Budweiser for Oklahoma than they do for anywhere else in the country. Like, for every three beers you would drink in Oklahoma , you would only have to drink two beers anywhere else.
