DAVE'S DIARY - 23/8/10 - PREVIEW OF EPISODE 12 - SERIES 14

SOUTHERN VOICE ON THE BLIND SIDE

International superstar actor Tim McGraw headlines Nu Country TV this Saturday - August 28 - at 10 pm on C 31.

McGraw performs in the video for his hit Southern Voice - title track of his 10th album.

It's one of 11 bonus video clips on his souvenir tour CD - a prize for Nu Country TV viewers.

The song was featured in the closing scenes of Oscar winning movie The Blind Side.
McGraw, 43, was cast as husband of Sandra Bullock.

Sydney band Jonah's Road, one of the supports on McGraw's tour, also returns to our show.

Tamworth born singer and TV host Felicity performs in a new video that revisits her teenage busking days.

And North Queensland cane farmer's daughter Roz Pappalardo debuts with her alt-country band The Wayward Gentlemen.

We also welcome back Tennessee troubadour-Nashville star winner Chris Young and South Carolina singing actor Josh Turner.

The show is repeated on Wednesday at 1 am and 3.30 p m and accessible on the C 31 web page.

FELICITY RETURNS TO MALL

Felicity Urquhart and Troy Cassar-Daley frequently share stages and TV screens.

But this week Felicity exposes another skill she shares with her fellow prolific Golden Guitar winner - her busking roots.

The singer performs in the video for Girl In The Mall - tale of her Peel St era, singing for her supper as a 12-year old schoolgirl.

Felicity wrote the song with Hunters & Collectors singer Mark Seymour for her acclaimed sixth album Landing Lights.

MCGRAW LINGERIE SHOWER

If Louisiana born singing superstar and actor Tim McGraw lands a cross dressing role in his movies he will have plenty of lingerie.

The husband of Mississippi singer Faith Hill was showered with bras and panties when he recently performed in Toronto.

But the father of three daughters didn't miss a beat as he sat on the lip of the stage and sang embryonic hit Down On The Farm.

It didn't upset Faith as much as when a female grabbed his genitalia at a U.S. concert about a decade ago.

McGraw, 43, and his Dancehall Doctors perform this week in the video for the title track of his 10th album Southern Voice.

The singer's 40 million plus album sales were ignited by 30 #1 hits from his discs that debuted at #1 on charts.

Now he has been awarded with a plaque commemorating 7,965,000 radio spins.

That's the most airplay of any artist from any genre from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2009.

Meanwhile Gwyneth Paltrow upstaged McGraw with new single Country Strong soaring charts.

It's the title track of the soundtrack of her latest movie in which McGraw plays her husband-manager.

The movie opens in the U.S. on December 21.

Another McGraw film Dirty Girl - also featuring Kentucky born singing actor Dwight Yoakam - will open next year.

JONAH'S ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Sydney band Jonah's Road, sharing McGraw support roles with Steve Forde, also returns to the show.

The trio performs the title track of its second album Counting Down The Days.

Their countdown ends as it joins McGraw at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday September 19.

Jonah's Road began a decade ago and released first album Hold On in 2004 and EP End Of The World earlier this year.

The band played a Fiji country festival last month and releases a triple 10-year celebration CD 10 Years On The Road - 2000-2010 this year.

It will also feature the band's video clips.

CHRIS YOUNG RETURN

Nashville star winner Chris Young returns with the video for his second #1 single The Man I Want To Be.

It was also the title track of his second album and followed his first #1 hit Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song.)

He co-wrote two other songs on the disc that includes a duet with Willie Nelson on Rose in Paradise and cover of Tony Joe White's Rainy Night in Georgia.

Jim McBride and Stewart Harris wrote Rose in Paradise - last #1 single for the late Waylon Jennings in 1987.

The Tennessee university graduate landed a record deal after winning the 2006 Nashville Star following a Texas stint with an Arlington honky tonk house band.

Chris, now 25, also recorded classic White Lightning Hit The Family Tree on his debut disc.

The Murfreesboro singer's debut disc originals include Small Town Big Time - one of two tunes penned with Tim James.

JOSH TURNER - LOG CABIN WRITING RETREAT

South Carolina born singing actor Josh Turner returns in the video for his #1 hit Would You Go With Me from second album Your Man.

Turner, 32, has since released two more albums Everything Is Fine and Haywire - on which he wrote the title track and co-wrote four others.

The baritone recently built a log cabin on his 40-acre spread south of Nashville.

It's pretty secluded and private out here," Turner revealed of the old homestead he shares with wife, Jennifer, and their two sons, Hampton, and Colby.

Another child is due next year.

The compound is the fruit of a career ignited on December 21, 2001.

That's when Turner brought the Grand Ole Opry crowd to its feet with his song Long Black Train - a tale of redemption, showcasing his talents as singer and songwriter.

But demands of multi-platinum success and thriving family made it hard for Turner to find time and a place to write.

That's why he decided to have the 1,700-square-foot cabin built.

"We're calling it the writer's cottage," Turner says.

"It's going to be my lair, my little hole in the wall, where I can go in and write and think and not have any TV or computers or phones or whatever, where I can get distracted."

Turner won acclaim for his role as gospel singer George Beverley Shea in the latest movie about famed evangelist Billy Graham.

He was cast as Graham's sidekick Shea in Billy: The Early Years.

The movie opened on October 10, 1988 - Graham's 90th birthday.

CANE FARMER'S DAUGHTER ROZ

Singing teacher Roz Pappalardo trumps Kentucky coalminer's daughters Loretta Lynn and Patty Loveless.

Roz is a cane farmer's daughter from Mena Creek near Innisfail in far North Queensland.

And like her dad, also a rock guitarist, she jammed with her bands under their two-story home.

She learned guitar on his Tommy Emmanuel Maton special.

After secondary school she moved to the big smoke of Townsville and a two-year stint in London.

Roz earned her stripes with Women In Docs before recording with her alt country band The Wayward Gentlemen.

They perform their video for I Fall from their CD This Lifeboat.

It was filmed in an old fully furnished house in the suburb of Albion in Brisbane.

Among the support cast are two gingerbread men and the son of Roz's guitarist.

Roz also joined a film crew recently in the Gulf Of Carpenteria recording and filming stories of residents of Pormpurraaw and Kowanyama.

This year she acted, danced and sang in Cairns musical theatre production The Impossible Dream.

It tells the unlikely story of visionary Jose Paronella who built a castle in the rain forest of Mena Creek to woo his wife, Margarita to Australia.
