DAVE'S DIARY - 5/1/10 - PREVIEW OF EPISODE 4 - SERIES 13

TEXAN JACK HITS BIG TIME

Texan tourist Jack Ingram debuts on Nu Country TV this Saturday - January 9 at 9.30pm on C 31 - on the eve of his first Australian visit.

The singing actor performs in a video of a song he'll showcase at CMC Rocks The Snowy festival at Thredbo on the March long weekend.

U.S. superstars Brooks & Dunn and Taylor Swift toured here last year and return to the show hosted by Heather Rutherford.

Swift has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards in 2010 and makes her second Australian tour in February.

Brooks & Dunn announced their split as a duo after their return tour here in May with Dierks Bentley.

Grafton-born dual ARIA Award winner Troy Cassar-Daley returns to Nu Country as a prelude to his Port Fairy Folk festival debut in March.

Broken Hill ballet dancing boxer Steve Rowe and Cessnock born chanteuse Kel-Anne Brandt also debut on the show, repeated Tuesday at 3 pm and online at the C 31 web page.

JEDD HUGHES JOINS JACK

Jack Ingram is the latest in a long line of Texans to hire expatriate South Australian Jedd Hughes for his guitar playing and songwriting.

Energetic axeman Hughes sang and played on Ingram's 13th album Big Dreams & High Hopes.

That was after Hughes wrote and performed with Texas born Rodney Crowell who toured here last April with Will Kimbrough.

Ingram, 38, performs in the video clip for his recent single Barefoot & Crazy on famed Lake Travis near Texas capital Austin.

The singer's interview with Nu Country last year was part of a Guinness World Records breaking interview marathon.

It was shortly after Hughes joined Ingram's choir on his revamp of the 1999 Todd Snider-Ingram song Barbie Doll.

Arizona born Australian tourist Dierks Bentley was Jack's duet partner and Little Big Town, Lost Trailers, Randy Houser, James Otto, Hughes and songwriter Bruce Sanders filled the redneck choir.

Ingram recently appeared in TV soapie Army Wives and was also in movies diverse as Abilene, with Ernest Borgnine, and Hope Floats.

Jack heads the international cast at the CMC Rocks The Snowy festival in Thredbo on March 5 and 6 with Texan Nanci Griffith and Virginia born pianist Phil Vassar.

He also tours Queensland and NSW with Canadian Doc Walker and Grenfell gaucho Steve Forde - also on the Thredbo bill.

TAYLOR SWIFT RETURNS

Taylor Swift has broken all major sales records since bursting onto the country scene as a teenager with her Internet driven music.

She was 18 when she made her Australian debut in March, 2009, at Thredbo before playing clubs.

When she returns in February she performs in major arenas in all capitals with Rod Laver Arena concerts in Melbourne on February 10 and 11.

She is touring with American Music Awards best new talent winners Gloriana.

The singer, who has sold more than 10 million albums, shares billing with a vast cast of cheerleaders this week in the video for recent smash hit You Belong With Me.

It's off her huge selling second CD Fearless, re-released with bonus tracks for the Christmas market.

The singer appeared with Miley Cyrus in the Hannah Montana movie, was cast as a victim in CSI and has now signed for the new Valentine's Day movie.

Swift plays Felicia - a homecoming queen - in the Garry Marshall romantic comedy.

She also contributes two songs to the movie soundtrack, Today Was a Fairytale and Jump Then Fall.

Swift's reputed boyfriend, Twilight: New Moon's Taylor Lautner, also appears as her love interest in the movie featuring Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher and Julia Roberts.

Taylor, now 20, has been nominated for a brace of Grammy awards after scooping the pool at the recent CMA Awards in Nashville and American Music festival.

She has long been a prolific songwriter and now her merchandising is fast dwarfing the Elvis Presley Rollercoaster.

Swift has a line of singing Taylor Swift dolls, Band Hero video games, greeting cards and a clothing franchise.

BROOKS & DUNN

Brooks & Dunn return to Nu Country with their new video clip Honky Tonk Stomp.

They showcase a vast array of cars and trucks and dancers as they stomp and sing.

The duo, formed in 1991, introduced fellow chart-topper Dierks Bentley to Australian audiences on their national tour in May.

Louisiana born Kix Brooks and Texan Ronnie Dunn topped charts and country music awards in their colourful career.

They created the Boot Scoot Boogie and also wrote songs about heroes diverse as Jerry Jeff Walker and Martin Luther King.

But the grind of constant touring took its toll on the artists - both of whom had solo careers before becoming a duo.

They released 10 studio albums, several greatest hits discs and brace of compilations.

Brooks, 54, and wife Barbara will now have more time to sample the product at their Tennessee winery and quarter horse stud that employs three Australians.

Dunn, 56 and married for 17 years to his wife, Janine, plans to spend more time with their three children: Whitney, Jesse and Haley.

The singer, who performed for Black Saturday victims in the aftermath of bushfires, returns here in February.

Troy appears at the resurrected Whittlesea Country Music festival from February 12-14 and the 34th Port Fairy folk festival on the March long weekend.

The singer performs on Nu Country this week in the video for the title track of his seventh album I Love This Place.

STEPHEN ROWE BOXING ON

Stephen Rowe combined boxing with ballet to help develop his balance as a motocross rider in his outback youth.

Rowe left Broken Hill for Adelaide at 19 and studied classical ballet.

He toured with the Houston, Milwaukee and Cincinnati Ballet Companies before following his dream as a singer.

It was in Houston that Stephen started writing his own songs.

Stephen got his break when invited by Tania Kernaghan, to record a guest vocal on her song Yee Ha!

His debut album, Broken Hill, was released in February 2007 - it reveals traditional music influences in stories of his life, hometown, family and his country.

Expatriate country roots artist Anne McCue produced the disc featuring four singles Don't Kick My Dog, Two Clock, You're The Angel and the title track.

In mid 2007, Stephen released the song Let's Fall In Love Again as a duet with Tania Kernaghan.

Rowe performs on Nu Country in the video for new single Country Kids In The City from his second album Restless Soul.

Travis Fimmel - the Aussie Calvin Klein underwear model and co-star of ABC TV series, The Beast, with late Patrick Swayze - has a major cameo in the video.

The singer ploughs plenty of territory in her travels to source her music.

She moved to Orange at the age of two and debuted on TV six years later.

Brandt finished her secondary education in Sydney before moving north to Newcastle where she studied singing at the Music Conservatorium while performing on NBN Channel 3.

She moved to Sydney in 1991 after surviving a divorce and major health crises.

Flying Burrito Brothers icon John Beland produced the first of her two albums - featuring a duet with one time Burritos singer Brian Cadd.

Brandt was a regular guest performer on Bert Newton's Good Morning Australia and has also appeared in All Saints.
