DAVE'S
DIARY - 21/1/09 - PREVIEW OF EPISODE 7 - SERIES 11
WILLIAMS
GALS ADORN NU COUNTRY TV
When Bob
McDill wrote the hit Good Old Boys Like Me for Texan Don Williams he name
checked other Williams boys - Hank and Tennessee.
Now two female members of Louisiana-Alabama reared Williams clans share
billing on Nu Country TV this week - Saturday January 24 - at 8 p m on
C 31.
Lucinda, daughter of academic poet and author Miller Williams and making
her third Australian tour in April, returns to the show hosted by Heather
Rutherford.
And Jett Williams performs a song by her late dad Hank, long known as
the Hillbilly Shakespeare, on the famed Louisiana Hayride.
Nashville superstars Brooks & Dunn return on the eve of their second
Australian tour. And former buskers Old Crow Medicine Show, among headliners
at the second CMC Rocks The Snowy festival, also reprise an embryonic
hit on Nu Country TV.
Perth princess Ronni Rae Rivers also returns the same week as Tamworth
family band Chasing Bailey - joint headliners at the lavish 2008 Vinnies'
Federation Square World Youth Day entrée concert.
LUCINDA
WILLIAMS NO APRIL FOOL
|
Lucinda
Williams proves announcement of her April 1 concert at Hamer Hall
was no April fool's joke.
The earthy singer-songwriter has added second concerts in both Melbourne
and Sydney on a tour that also embraces the annual Byron Bay Blues
festival.
Williams, 56, is touring to promote her acclaimed ninth album Little
Honey - a latter career catalyst after a brace of morose discs.
Lucinda co-produced the album with her fiancee Tom Overby and features
a stunning duet with Elvis Costello.
The singer won loyal fans on previous tours including a concert at
the Dallas Brooks Masonic Hall with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Rosanne
Cash who returned for a rare gig at the Sydney Festival.
Williams performs a video for Are You Alright from previous
album West. |

JETT
WILLIAMS
|
Jett
Williams, daughter of the legendary Hank, debuts on Nu Country TV
with a live version of Hank hit Hey Good Lookin'.
Jett reveals her sire originally wrote the song for Grand Ole Opry
star Little Jimmy Dickens, now 88 and recovering from brain surgery,
but liked it so much he recorded it himself.
The singer makes the revelation in a concert on the famed Louisiana
Hayride with David Frizzell - brother of late legend Lefty.
Williams, now 55, was born in Montgomery, Alabama, five days after
her father died on his way to Canton, Ohio, where he was to perform
on New Year's Day, 1953.
Relinquished by her natural mother, Bobbie Jett of Nashville, the
infant was taken from the hospital where she was born into the home
of Hank's mother, Lillian, who adopted her.
Lillian
started lengthy adoption processes within days of the funeral of
Hank, just 29.
She completed the adoption in December of 1954.
|
Unfortunately,
she was dead within two months and the family no longer wanted the infant,
whom Lillian had named Cathy Yvonne for the Yvonne in his hit Jambalaya.
The Williams made Jett a ward of the State of Alabama and she was relocated
to a foster home in Pine Level at the age of three.
Subsequently adopted by a family in Mobile, Jett was raised there and
attended the University of Alabama.
During her youth, Jett had no idea who her natural parents were - let
alone her dad was Hank Williams.
Jett Williams was declared by court order dated October 26, 1987, to be
the biological daughter of Hank Williams.
On June 5, 1989, the Supreme Court of the State of Alabama, reversing
a lower court ruling, found that Jett, since birth, had been a victim
of fraud and judicial error in that her identity was concealed from her
for financial gain.
The Supreme Court declared all prior orders in the Estate of Hank Williams
to be null and void, since procured by fraud on the court, and reopened
Hank's estate, making Jett Williams a legal heir, entitled to one-half
the estate proceeds.
Her autobiography, entitled Ain't Nothin' as Sweet as My Baby,
chronicles the saga of her struggle (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1990).

a decade ago with their hit If You See Him/If You See Her.
They debuted their cut of Cowgirls Don't Cry live at the 42nd Annual
CMA Awards in November.
"I had just spent time writing the song on Reba's Duets record, Does
the Wind Still Blow in Oklahoma, and when he sat down with Cowgirls
Don't Cry co-writer Terry McBride," Dunn said.
"I was thinking of Reba when I wrote it and how she grew up"
around cowboys and the rodeo lifestyle."
