TOURISTS ENRICH NU COUNTRY TV

Touring international artists Patty Griffin, Kathleen Edwards, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion and Emmylou Harris give this week's episode of Nu Country TV a touch of class.

Griffin, scheduled to make her debut Australian tour in August, showcases her video for Throw A Line this Tuesday March 21 at 9 p m on C 31.

The song - entrée for sixth album Impossible Dream - impacted for a Maine minstrel who now calls Austin, Texas, home for a two-decade career.

Griffin, 42, has written major songs for artists diverse as Dixie Chicks and Emmylou Harris.

She has also landed her songs in the movies Elizabethtown, We Were Soldiers and Anywhere But Here.

Producer Sofie B filmed this week's host Peter Luscombe - drummer for the house band on popular SBS show Rockwiz - at Port Fairy.

KATHLEEN EDWARDS

Canadian chanteuse Kathleen Edwards and guitarist husband-producer Colin Cripps won an enthusiastic audience on their whirlwind debut Australian tour in February.

The daughter of an Ottawa diplomat was here to promote her second album Back To Me.

Edwards, 28, promised to return here with her band to promote her third album, set to be recorded with Cripps and her band.

She performs a video for her tune In State on Nu Country.

SARAH LEE GUTHRIE AND JOHNNY IRION

Sarah Lee Guthrie carried on a family tradition when she toured here in March with her daughter Olivia, just 3 and her nanny.

The singer was just two when she slept in a cot backstage at concerts by her father Arlo at the peak of his career.

Sarah Lee and singing spouse and some time writing partner Irion were touring to promote their debut duets disc Exploration after releasing solo discs on Arlo's label.

Guthrie and Irion showcased songs from Exploration and road tested new tunes they have penned since its release.

Producer Sofie B filmed Sarah Lee, granddaughter of legendary Dylan mentor Woody Guthrie, and Irion at Melbourne concerts and the 30th Port Fairy folk festival.

EMMYLOU HARRIS LIVE AT RYMAN

Alabama born belle Emmylou Harris won two different generations of fans on her two Australian tours in 1983 and the nineties.

Harris, 58, has resurrected her career with a brace of producers in a career that pre-dated her duets with the late Gram Parsons.

The singer recorded pure country with her former producer spouses Brian Ahern and Paul Kennerley before broadening her music with Daniel Lanois.

We feature Emmylou live at the Grand Ole Opry mother ship - Ryman Auditorium -in 1991 with her Grammy award winning band The Nash Ramblers featuring latter day Texan solo artist Jon Randall.

Harris's unique vocals have graced two separate Raven Records compilations after being culled from her albums dating back to 1969 with Gliding Bird.

Emmylou has won at least 12 Grammys in her highly decorated career.

SIMON BRUCE DEBUT

Victorian child prodigy Simon Bruce makes his Nu Country debut with a tune from acclaimed debut album Restless Thoughts that was produced by Nash Chambers.

Bruce busked on the streets of London at 13 and cut his second EP in Nashville at 15 with Tommy Emmanuel producing and Keith Urban guesting.

He toured the U.S. with John Hiatt at 19 and worked the Texas kicker circuit with revered peers Slaid Cleaves and Nathan Hamilton.

Bruce mines the troubadour trove of early mentor Dylan with delicious dexterity and delivers without those aural imperfections.

Glen Waverley band Wagons - a staple on seaside festivals - return to Nu Country.
