WYNONNA HAILS HEAVEN FOR HELP

Wynonna Judd lives in the shadows of young movie star sister Ashley in the unlucky radio country.

But not in the competitive U.S. scene - she and mother Naomi were among the hottest duos of the eighties and 1990 with CD sales exceeding 20 million.

Their dramatic career, interrupted by Naomi's chronic Hepatitis C, produced 20 plus albums and a brace of farewell and reunion tours.

Since going solo Wynonna, 40, has won a huge following for her gutsy country rock soul gospel hybrid on seven acclaimed albums.

She performs Heaven Help Me from big selling 2003 disc What The World Needs Is Love whose sales have been boosted by current hit Flies On The Butter (You Can't Go Home Again.)

Wynonna also won headlines for a fiery divorce and joined female peers Terri Clark, Deana Carter, Carlene Carter and Mindy McCready in well-publicised court cases involving cars, drink and dope.

BR5-49 CHEROKEE BOOGIE

Riveting roots country band BR549 made an exciting Sydney visit in 1998 to promote the launch of the now defunct Western Pacific Rim version of CMT.

The band, then managed by expatriate Australasian entrepreneur and publisher Barry Coburn, has since recovered from an internal revolution and a spelling change.

We bring you their energised version of vintage hit Cherokee Boogie made famous by the late Moon Mullican and Johnny Horton.
