The
famed Red Hill Country Music festival, host to the cream of Australian
artists during its 20 plus year history, kicks off the summer season
in Victoria on Sunday January 8. The festival showcased a diverse cast of international and Australian artists diverse as chart topping singing actor Joe Sun, the Kernaghans, Beccy Cole, Felicity and Adam Harvey since it began almost 20 years ago. |
Holidaymakers
swell crowds to 5-10,000 at the scenic Red Hill Showgrounds festival promoted
by the Mt Eliza Lions Club.
British born baritone Phil Younger & The Brew, Black Hill Ramblers,
Jetty Road and The Breakers featuring former Nu Country FM DJ Peter Cook
who made his name with James Freud of The Models, are among the headliners
for Red Hill 2006.
Other artists included Riverina singer Craig Giles, Sharon Benjamin and
Wodonga bred host Rodney Vincent.
It kicks off at 9 am with Peninsula Youth Talent Quest, sponsored by Rye
& District Community Bank, is a nursery for local acts shooting for
success.

Younger
returned to his roots to release Country Brew's debut album Concrete
Jungle Cowboys. The singer, boasting a three-octave range, wrote 12 original songs for the album that made the English country charts. Standing 6 ft 6 in the old currency, Melbourne based Younger towers over peers when he takes the stage. Among guests on his disc are violinist Jen Anderson, former Git singer Sarah Carroll, Ian Collard on harmonica and Ed Bates on pedal steel. |

Lee and Paula
grew up in East Gippsland, Victoria, where they honed their craft.
The band is renowned for its eclectic mix of acoustic guitar, piano accordion,
pedal steel, violin & vocal harmonies.
It has been nominated as Top 5 finalist in the Tamworth Tiara Awards in
January and Victorian Country Music Awards in February.
BLACK
HILL RAMBLES
Black Hill Ramblers have been active on the Victorian rockabilly and country
for more than eight years.
The quartet also performs rodeos at Dunnolly, Ballarat and Cranbourne
on January 14 and 21 and February 4 to promote its CD Rambler Tracks.
Members are Shane Connors - vocals and rhythm guitar, Rod Sheehan - drums
& vocal, Steve Perrett - lead guitar and Simon Stewart - double bass.
Former Ol 55 drummer Geoff Peterkin has been the focus of the Breakers
who have been a staple on the Aussie circuit for almost two decades.
The award-winning band performs to promote its historic CD Gone Country
and other releases.

Showground is inland from Rosebud and Rye in the famed vineyard strip
on the Mornington Peninsula (Melway 190 J4) .
The gates open at 9.00 a.m. and the music continues until 6 p m with food,
games and beverages.
